Chevrolet SS kick started his AMSW championship bid with his 12th-career top-10 finish as the race was called short due to rain and lightning after 115 of 150 scheduled laps.

Wood began his effort in the desert by posting the eighth-quickest time in practice and followed that up with an eighth-place qualifying effort. The Californian began the event by wrestling an extremely loose handling condition in the NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet. Wood radioed the team that his balance was a “10 out of 10” loose on both ends of Phoenix’s flat mile but managed to stay on the lead lap during the first half of the event.

Crew chief Kevin Bellicourt took advantage of a caution on lap 70 to bring Wood to pit road for a crucial wedge adjustment while running 14th. On the ensuing restart at lap 75, Wood rocketed forward to claim the sixth position by the time the halfway caution flew on lap 76.

Wood took on four fresh General Tires, fuel, and additional chassis adjustments during the halfway break to tweak the improved balance on his Chevrolet. When the race restarted on lap 81, Wood was a mainstay in the top-10 until a caution for lightning slowed the field on lap 113. Wood was credited with a seventh-place finish as a rare thunderstorm enveloped the desert mile and forcing an official finish after 115 laps were completed.

“With as deep as the field was here, seventh is a solid start to our season,” Wood said. “Our NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet was too loose in the first half of the race, and we really needed that caution before halfway to get an extra adjustment. Kevin and the guys made a good call, and it really improved the car. I would have liked to see us run out the full distance to see if we could have gotten into the top-five, but that’s a solid finish for our first race as a group. We have a good foundation here and we’ll work on getting ready for Irwindale in a couple weeks.”

Start / Finish: 8 / 7
Points Standing / Total: 7th / 37 pts.

Jack Wood delivered his best performance of the 2024 season on Friday afternoon at Sonoma Raceway and earned a fifth-place finish. The driver of the No. 16
link hidden, please login to view Chevrolet SS gained a position in the ARCA Menards Series West standings and now resides third in points after four events. The effort in California’s wine county marked his first top-five finish of the season and his third top-five result at Sonoma. Wood started the 200-mile showdown from the eighth position and immediately went forward at the drop of the green flag. The Loomis, Calif. driver vaulted himself into the top five on the opening lap to assert himself as a contender. The race’s first restart came on lap 10 and Wood settled into sixth position as he preserved his tires, since no tire changes were permitted during the 67-lap event.
He came to the attention of the NAPA Auto Care team for his only pit stop of the afternoon during a lap 23 caution for a chassis adjustment and fuel. He restarted seventh on lap 27 and worked his way into fourth by lap 36. He would consistently run inside the top five for the balance of the event and claimed third position on a lap 47 restart.
Over the final 10 circuits, Wood found himself in a heated battle for third and ran fourth with two laps to go when a caution flag waved to set up a one-lap overtime restart. Wood restarted fourth and took the checkered flag in fifth for his first top-10 result of his 2024 campaign.
“It definitely feels good to get a top-five today,” Wood said. “We had a real consistent NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet today and it’s nice to come out of here with a good finish. All these guys at BMR brought some good speed here. We were a little bit off of race-winning speed, but proud of the effort and feel like we executed a solid day from start to finish.”

Jack Wood drove to a 12th-place finish at Portland International Raceway after a hail-mary pass for the lead on the final restart went awry and he ran off the track. Wood qualified the No. 16
link hidden, please login to view Chevrolet SS in the fourth position, then quickly overtook the third-place position, where he remained for most of the ARCA Menards West Series race on Friday afternoon. During the halfway stage break, Wood visited pit road for fuel and service from crew chief Kevin Bellicourt and his crew. Following the break, Wood maintained his third-place position, fending off challenges from several different drivers on the 1.98-mile course.
On the final restart, Wood launched himself from the second row, passing both the second- and first-place competitors, but miscalculated, and was unable to maintain the lead, sliding off-track. He was able to keep his Chevrolet SS undamaged and continued as the last vehicle on the lead lap. In the final five laps, Wood was able to improve his position from 15th to 12th, where he finished the 57-lap race.
“Our NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet ran up front all day,” Wood said. “Proud of the speed that we had and all the work these BMR guys put into our car. We definitely should have run in the top three, but just got into the corner too deep on that last restart and it got away. It’s a shame to not get the finish we should have, but we’ll go to Sonoma and try to have the same speed there next week.”

It was take two for High Limit Racing at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas, last week after the original date of April 9 was postponed due to heavy rain in the days prior. Race fans eager to see some 410 sprint car action packed the stands, leaving standing room only by the time Brad Sweet hit the track for hot laps in the
link hidden, please login to view No. 49 machine. Sweet was lightning-fast right away, clocking a lap time of 11.266 seconds in qualifying, putting him in the top spot and within just two-tenths of the track record. It marked Sweet’s fifth QuickTime award on the season, all achieved within a ten-race span.
As the evening unfolded, Sweet found himself starting fourth in his heat race, where he maintained his position to the checkered flag. Though finishing fourth, the Big Cat still earned a trip to the Dash as the fastest qualifier.
Drawing the third starting spot for the Dash, the NAPA team had seven laps to gain a better starting spot and test their setup in the feature. Sweet mounted a thrilling battle for second but ultimately crossed the line in third. He lined up in that spot for the main event, and the feature went green. The NAPA driver navigated the track to the best of his abilities as the laps ticked by. With an extended mid-race caution, the No. 49 team tried to modify their strategy. Sweet faced fierce competition and a challenging track surface but brought the NAPA Auto Parts No. 49 to the finish line in fourth place.
