The CAR Coalition has reported that Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is prepared to move forward with the Massachusetts Right to Repair law.

Ballot Question 1, which updated the state’s landmark 2013 Right to Repair law, passed with 75% of the vote in November 2020. Since then, automakers have kept the law tied in up federal court in an effort to block its implementation.

While a federal judge has delayed ruling on the automakers’ lawsuit on six occasions, the attorney general recently issued notice that she intends to enforce the law effective June 1:

“The people of Massachusetts deserve the benefit of the law they approved more than two years ago. Consumers and independent repair shops deserve to know whether they will receive access to vehicle repair data in the manner provided by the law. Auto manufacturers (“OEMs”) and dealers need to understand their obligations under the law and take action to achieve compliance.”

On the national stage, U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn recently re-introduced

HR 906, as introduced in Congress, aims to “ensure consumers have access to data relating to their motor vehicles, critical repair information and tools, and to provide them choices for the maintenance, service and repair of their motor vehicles, and for other purposes.”

“When it comes to repairing their automobiles, consumers deserve options,” said Dunn, a Florida Republican. “The REPAIR Act would give owners, including the rural communities in my district, secure access to critical data so their chosen service center can replace parts and repair their vehicles. I am proud to support competition in the vehicle repair industry.”

Dunn is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has responsibility for consumer protection, among several other topics. The bill was referred to the committee on Feb. 9.

The Auto Care Association, MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, CAR Coalition, CVSN, PAMA and NFIB support the “Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair” (REPAIR) Act 2025.
Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced this bipartisan, bicameral bill.
The bill ensures that consumers can repair their vehicles freely, safely and affordably.
      The Impact of Automaker Restrictions
As vehicles modernize, automakers block independent repair shops and aftermarket suppliers.
They impose arbitrary restrictions on who can access repair data. This forces Americans into exclusive, more expensive repair networks.
As a result, American drivers face higher repair bills with fewer repair choices. Independent repair shops, parts manufacturers, and aftermarket service providers struggle with automaker restrictions. These barriers complicate routine repairs and maintenance. A recent survey shows that 84% of independent repair shops view data access as a top issue.

The automotive aftermarket should be pleased to hear that the REPAIR Act has now secured its first Presidential endorsement. Theodore Roosevelt, 26th president of the United States, has officially backed H.R. 1566.  The endorsement comes on the heels of a face-to-face meeting between Roosevelt and the leadership team at the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance Inc.
“We immediately found a common ground,” proclaimed Roosevelt during the post-meeting press conference. “As I have said before, all I ask is a square deal for every American! We must provide motorists with a fair chance. They should be able to choose the garage and mechanic of their choice to repair their automobiles.”
“The Alliance has been a leader in this advocacy effort,” noted JC Washbish, president and CEO of the Alliance. “We have been successful in the past when it comes to garnering support for the Right to Repair but to win this fight we needed to punch above our weight class. We know we need to carry a bigger stick. That is why we approached the President.”

link hidden, please login to view a staunch advocate for the Right to Repair, explained to Roosevelt that at its core, the right to repair issue is a square deal, “we simply told the Colonel that every motorist should have the choice for affordable and convenient automotive repair.” Washbish also cautioned President Roosevelt that the fight for the Right to Repair still needs to be communicated and pushed through the Halls of Congress and that is why the Alliance sought the leadership of the famous Rough Rider.
Roosevelt pledged his commitment, saying, “It is the ideal cause for me to lead. The aftermarket is devoted to it, and this cause is one for which I am inspired to reclaim the bully pulpit. The Right to Repair is so fundamentally American! It is as native to this land as the bison on the prairie!”
      While the meeting between the

link hidden, please login to view announced the release of 164 new automotive repair solutions this month for its Light Duty segment. The new products join a growing Light Duty catalog of over 133,000 SKUs, offering millions of new sales opportunities for automotive parts distributors, retailers and repair shops, as well as more accessible solutions for vehicle owners, according to Dorman. This month’s releases include a dozen new Dorman OE FIX repair innovations that provide customers with improved performance and repair convenience that they may not be able to obtain with parts acquired from a dealership,
link hidden, please login to view said. The company added that one of those OE FIX innovations is an upgraded camshaft bridge cover designed for select Volkswagen and Audi vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines. The original equipment cover may fail from pressure pulsations that can cause internal component damage. The Dorman replacement features several design improvements that help mitigate the pulsations and prevent filter clogging that can starve the engine for oil and harm vehicle performance.
“At Dorman, innovation drives everything we do,” said Eric Luftig, senior vice president. “We’re proud to bring groundbreaking solutions to the automotive aftermarket, helping consumers find the right parts when they need them most. Our commitment to empowering vehicle owners and repair professionals with quality, accessibility and reliability continues to fuel our passion for progress.”
Dorman said it continues to expand its components for turbocharger repair and replacement, adding a new OE FIX oil feed line constructed of braided stainless steel over the line’s flexible sections. The line is engineered to offer a more durable replacement compared to the original equipment’s braided nylon sheathing used in certain Ford Escape and Ford Fusion models, the company said.
      Additional highlights for March include:
An OE FIX radiator outlet hose for select Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. The line features a rugged aluminum Y-connector in place of the factory’s plastic connector. A main battery fuse with coverage designed for a significant number of Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles, and engineered to match the performance of the original equipment fuse. A new transmission oil cooler designed to match the performance of the factory cooler on select Dodge Durango SUVs. The cooler joins a comprehensive lineup of quality fluid coolers from Dorman.
