Continental has introduced a new floor display as a part of its ClearContact commercial-duty wiper-blades program.

The display can accommodate an assortment of up to 70 wiper blades that can be selected by the retailer or service facility. Continental will help customize a product mix that best fits the customer’s sales and applications needs.

The ClearContact commercial-duty line includes 43 part numbers in lengths from 10 to 40 inches. The blades are specially engineered for commercial trucks, RVs, transit buses, school buses, motorcoaches and off-highway vehicles.

“This high-impact display is an excellent sales tool for service centers, truck stops and parts retailers for commercial-duty vehicles and RVs,” said Laura Huerst, Continental product manager. “It features a very small footprint of 18 inches long by 18 inches wide by 63.5 inches high and the display header card includes a QR code that links directly to an application guide, allowing customers to find the exact blades they need. This gives retailers the ability to stock the wiper blades they sell most often, maximizing coverage with minimal inventory.”

Continental’s ClearContact commercial-duty wiper blades are designed for a simple and fast installation and come with all the necessary hardware required to install. They feature a reinforced steel frame and precision-cut natural rubber wiper blade to ensure clear vision, edge-to-edge wiping and reliability in all weather conditions. ClearContact commercial-duty blades are available in four designs including flat, five bar, wide saddle and hook. They provide coverage for a wide range of vehicle applications on Class 1 through Class 8 trucks, buses, motorcoaches and Class A, B and C motorhomes.

      How car wiper works
Car wipers help drivers see clearly when it's raining or snowing. They’re a small but important part of the car. Here’s a simple look at how they work:
      Wiper Blades
They’re just rubber (or sometimes silicone) strips that slide across your windshield to keep it clear.
      Wiper Arms
The metal arms hold the blades and move them back and forth across the glass.
      Wiper Motor
There’s a little electric motor under the hood that makes the arms move. It’s usually under the hood.
      Linkage
This is a set of mechanical parts that connect the motor to the arms. It makes sure both arms move together smoothly.
      Wiper Pivot
This is the spot where the arms are attached to the car. It lets the arms rotate as they move.
      Wiper Switch
You turn the wipers on and off with a switch—usually on the dashboard or the steering wheel.
      Wiper Relay
This part controls the power going to the motor. It helps the wipers run at different speeds, like slow, fast, or on and off (intermittent).
      How It All Works Together
When you turn on the wipers, the switch sends a signal to the relay. The relay gives power to the motor. The motor starts spinning, and the linkage changes that spinning motion into the back-and-forth movement of the arms. They just sweep across the windshield and get rid of whatever’s in the way.
      Intermittent Wiping
For light rain, you can use the intermittent setting. It makes the wipers move with short pauses in between.
      Washer System
Most cars also have a washer system that sprays cleaning fluid on the windshield. When you press the washer button, a small pump sprays the fluid through nozzles to help clean the glass.

Hunter Engineering has introduced a website that breaks down sophisticated ADAS procedures and terminology into easy-to-understand topics, as a means to help simplify the ever-complicating conversations around ADAS.
Available for free to access and use, Hunter’s interactive ADAS Learning Tool works on touchscreen tablets or desktop computers. Designed to assist counter workers or allow customers to explore on their own, the tool succinctly answers many of the why, when and how questions both shops and consumers have regarding ADAS calibrations,
link hidden, please login to view explained. “ADAS has received plenty of attention the past several years, but comparatively little of it deals with talking to actual vehicle owners,” said Tommy Maitz, Hunter director of marketing. “This learning tool will help shops have more informative and effective conversations with their customers about which systems are included on their cars, and the need for calibrations.”
The tool begins by separating ADAS procedures into four main categories – camera, radar, ultrasound, internal – and provides brief overviews and images for each type to aid with in-person discussions. From there, a user can examine the color-coded vehicle image to learn about the specific functions and locations of ADAS components, and when calibrations would be recommended or required.
Also included on the page are extensive lists of the names OEMs use for the ADAS systems across their models, color-coded to locations on the image. Although the names vary widely across the dozens of OEMs, the functions usually fall into one of the four main categories, Hunter said.
“While shops generally know much more about ADAS than their customers at this point, there’s still some confusion and uncertainty when they talk to them,” Maitz said. “This tool is a quick and easy way for everyone to understand the concepts and get on the same ADAS page.”
